The Build

Henry Mark I

Henry was purchased in June 2016 direct from Landrover with a few useful additions which made life easier.

His first incarnation was simply as a vehicle to carry a ground tent with wolf box rear storage, slide-out fridge-freezer and the removal of the second row seats.

Henry Mark II

Henry Mark II was vehicle-based camping which meant the addition of a pop-top roof tent and rear gull-wing windows with side storage.

This gave greater flexibility and quicker set-up times and was great for short-term travel.

Henry Mark III

At this point we had to go back to the drawing board as we didn’t feel the current set-up would work for long-term travel.

Everything was stripped back and Henry was on his travels to Ex Tec in Germany for a state-of-the art roof conversion

The next major work was to design and fabricate a working kitchen to include water filtration and storage, shower points and running water, electrical outlets and a diesel-powered night heater.

The design of the kitchen came just in time for Lockdown number 1 in early 2020. Initially designed and built in wood by James then plotted and laser-cut in 2.5mm aluminium. The panels were then shipped to the fabricators and fabricated into a three-dimensional kitchen.

The floor and worktops were constructed out of bamboo which had to be routed to fit. The kitchen units were painted to match the original vehicle colour to give it that factory-finish look.

Next step was to install the kitchen and fit doors, hinges, catches, electrics, pipework, pumps….etc…..
