Meet Henry the Land Rover and BigMog the Unimog
Henry and BigMog are more than the vehicles who carry us on our overland journey around the world. They are members of the Sidetracked team, each with a personality and story of his own. Both travelled a long road before they joined the team with a rich history behind them making them the perfect travelling companions wherever we are.
Henry the Defender
Henry is our 110 Landrover Defender 2.2L Puma. He is our African home and a founding member of the Sidetracked team. He is my first love and we will never be away from him – or from Africa – for long.
We have transformed him into a fully kitted-out overland vehicle who keeps us safe, warm, dry and (mostly!) out of trouble. With large batteries and solar panels, 60L water tanks, a fridge and very comfortable bed, he is perfect for outdoor living in the African wilderness.

BigMog the UniMog
BigMog is our U1550 L37 Mercedes UniMog. When we are travelling the rest of the world, BigMog is our home.
Having spent the first 20 years of his life as a fire engine, we have transformed him into a state-of-the-art expedition vehicle. He is thermally insulated with 800Ah of lithium batteries, 1.2kW of solar panels and a 217L fresh water tank. With a shower and composting toilet, kitchen and full-sized double bed he wants for nothing and was built after three years of nomadic life in Henry with all the lessons learnt.
