We bought BigMog in January 2024, a 23 year old U1550 L37 fire engine, well looked after and cared for by the Fire Service and kept in good condition throughout his life – which we thought would be a good start.
We specifically wanted a U1550 as that was the latest model before they got complicated and technical – they are generally considered the best UniMog for long term travel.
BigMog is a truly international vehicle, very appropriate for his new role :
- UniMog from Germany
- Habitation box from Canada
- Windows and doors from Holland
- LED headlights from Australia
We spent 12 months buying him, renovating him and then adding the state-of-the-art habitation box. The box was fitted out to a very high specification, enabling us to carry on our journey around the world and explore colder, wetter and harsher environments.
